Where to Eat before the Show

At the Club: NOTE: Summer hours are subject to change and sometimes affected by special events. Please phone ahead to be sure you can be seated.

Duke's, the Sports Bar on the second floor, is usually open before performances Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings, and sometimes from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. 213/625-2211 ext. 3290

The Grill Room, dining on the third floor, (figure about $20/person not including drinks, tax, tip) is closed Saturdays and Sundays. 213/625-2211 ext. 3317

For drinks: the Main Bar, third floor. Closed Saturday and Sunday.

Within walking distance:

Cicada (click on name for menu and more information), 617 South Olive (right across the street), Italian cuisine in the Art Deco splendor of the Oviatt Building. Expensive. Reservations recommended as they often get large pre-theatre crowds from the Music Center. 213/488-9488. Closed Sunday.

Ciao Trattoria (click on name for menu and more information), 815 West Seventh Street (between Flower and Figueroa, that is, a little more than 3 blocks west of the Club), Italian cuisine in the historic Fine Arts Building. Moderate. And a great Happy Hour from 4-7. 213/624-2244.

Inexpensive and Fun:

If you're not deterred by somewhat funky streets, walk over to Clifton's Brookdale, 648 S. Broadway (at 7th). This cafeteria has been serving up American food (and that now includes Mexican American) for a century in a friendly setting that resembles a diorama of Yosemite. No alcohol. In the early days, people who couldn't afford a meal ate here free.

And of course, Little Tokyo and Chinatown with many restaurants are a short drive away.
